IDD Therapy Spinal Decompression

At Synergy Body & Spine Clinic, we work with people who are struggling with ongoing back or neck pain that hasn’t improved with traditional hands-on treatment alone.

What is IDD Therapy?

IDD Therapy is the gold standard in spinal decompression and is designed specifically for unresolved spinal conditions, including disc-related problems.

It provides a highly targeted, non-surgical treatment option for patients whose symptoms continue despite physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy or exercise rehabilitation.

IDD Therapy allows us to focus precisely on the affected spinal level, reduce pressure on the disc and surrounding nerves, and progressively restore movement and stability as part of a structured programme of care.

If you would like to find out whether IDD Therapy is suitable for you, call 0121 517 2199 to arrange a consultation at our Solihull B92 Clinic.

Who is IDD Therapy For?

IDD Therapy is commonly indicated for:

  • Herniated or Bulging Disc

  • Sciatica / Radiculopathy (nerve pain in the legs or arms)

  • Degenerative Disc Disease

  • Mild to Moderate Spinal Stenosis

  • Chronic Low Back or Neck pain

Whether you already have an MRI diagnosis or simply know that your pain is not settling, we will carry out a thorough assessment to determine the most appropriate treatment route for you.

How Does IDD Therapy Work?

IDD Therapy is a non-surgical spinal decompression treatment designed to relieve pressure on targeted spinal discs and restore movement in stiff joints and soft tissues.

At Synergy Body & Spine Clinic, we use the Accu-SPINA system to isolate and treat a specific spinal level with precision, something traditional traction could not achieve. You lie comfortably on the table while gentle, computer-controlled forces decompress and mobilise the affected segment.

By reducing pressure on an injured or bulging disc and improving movement in surrounding tissues, IDD Therapy aims to ease nerve irritation, improve mobility and support the body’s natural healing processes.

Treatment is delivered as part of a structured programme over several weeks, with each session tailored to your progress.

Our goal is long-term pain relief and helping you return to the activities you enjoy.

IDD Therapy at Synergy

Clinic Director Natalya's own back pain was helped by IDD Therapy and she says:

“The reason we offer IDD Therapy is because I had it myself when my own back was not responding to standard treatments.  I could feel it working in a way that cannot be achieved with manual treatments and exercise.  Having experienced the benefits for myself, I wanted to ensure that our patients have the best options to get their lives back without simply living with pain”.

What happens during an appointment?

Treatment Protocol

A typical care pathway includes:

  • Detailed history and orthopaedic / neurological examination

  • Review of MRI or other imaging where available

  • Individualised IDD Therapy plan

  • Progressive adjustment of treatment parameters

  • Ongoing outcome monitoring

Sessions last approximately one hour, including preparatory warming of soft tissues with an infrared  heat pad, targeted spinal decompression and a little cooling afterwards.

We’ll provide you with clear answers, realistic expectations and a plan that fits your condition and goals.

Referral and Suitability

IDD Therapy is suitable for patients who:

  • Have not responded fully to standard conservative care

  • Are seeking to avoid injections or surgery where appropriate

  • Require a structured, non-invasive solution

Where treatment is not indicated, alternative management pathways or referral to appropriate medical specialists will be arranged.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have had a spinal injection. Can I still have IDD Therapy?

Yes. We allow the effects of the injection to settle before starting treatment, typically two weeks. Our aim is to help reduce the need for further injections or surgery where appropriate.

I have had an MRI scan. What should I do?

If conservative care has been recommended and there is no indication for urgent surgery, you can bring your MRI report and images to the clinic. The scan helps confirm the likely source of symptoms. While disc findings are important, our approach focuses on restoring overall spinal function.

If you have previously had spinal surgery and there are no metal implants, IDD Therapy may be considered after approximately six months to allow healing. If treatment is not suitable, we will recommend alternative options or refer appropriately.

Is IDD Therapy painful?

No. Treatment is computer-controlled and delivered in a gentle, progressive manner. Patients find it comfortable and relaxing, with many falling asleep.

Do I need to undress?

No. You remain fully clothed throughout treatment.

Are there age restrictions?

IDD Therapy is suitable for adults over 18, once growth plates are fully developed. There is no upper age limit, although suitability is assessed individually.

Will I need a course of treatment?

Yes. Treatment is delivered as a structured programme with staged progression. Spinal conditions develop over time and require gradual adaptation as treatment progresses.  Rather like a strength training programme at a gym isn’t a one day visit, so too as we progressively recue pain and restore spinal function.

How long is each session?

Appointments last up to one hour. This includes approximately ten minutes of preparatory heat, 25–26 minutes of decompression, and a short cooling phase afterwards.

How much does IDD Therapy cost?

IDD Therapy forms part of a treatment programme and is charged from £75 per session.

Will the results last?

The programme is designed to restore spinal function progressively, supporting long-term improvement. Advice on exercise and lifestyle is provided to help maintain results.

How is IDD Therapy different from traction?

IDD Therapy isolates a specific spinal level and applies precisely controlled, measured forces combined with mobilisation. This targeted, segmental approach as part of a programme of care separates it from treatments of the past.

How long has IDD Therapy been used?

IDD Therapy has been in clinical use since the early 2000s and is used in clinics across the UK and internationally.  It is the gold standard non-surgical spinal decompression treatment with the UK’s largest network of providers.

How do I find out if I am suitable?

Contact the clinic to arrange a consultation or discovery call, and we will assess whether IDD Therapy is appropriate for your condition.
